My book In My Defence, I Have No Defence is out with Affirm Press in May 2021. This isn’t the cover, it’s just a funny photo.

Here is the spiel:

In My Defence, I Have No Defence sees Sinéad raise the white flag on trying to live up to impossible standards. She has always known that there was a better version of herself lying just outside of her grasp. That if she listened to the right song or won the right (any) award or knew about whisky or followed the right Instagram psychologist or drank kombucha, ever, she would become her ‘best self’. Wild, funny and wickedly relatable, In My Defence, I Have No Defence is one woman’s reckoning with her complete inability to self-improve and an hilarious reprieve for anyone who has ever struggled to be better.

Sinéad Stubbins said: ‘As soon as I (virtually) met with the team at Affirm, I knew I had found the right home for my book. Like Danielle, they understood perfectly what I was trying to do with this collection of humorous, sometimes deplorable stories. I hope a book about the weird stuff I have seen and done, can make people feel a little less weird in a truly weird time.’

Danielle Binks said: ‘I’ve been laughing over Sinéad’s Game of Thrones hot-takes and Pacey Witter fangirling for a few years now, and I’m just thrilled that even more people will now have the opportunity to admire her self-deprecating wit and wicked sense of humour!’

Ruby Ashby-Orr, Affirm Press Senior Editor, said: ‘I’ve long been a fan of Sinéad’s recaps, but reading In My Defence, I Have No Defence really showed the breadth of her writing. As you’d expect, these pieces are always very funny, but they’re also incredibly wise, thoughtful and true. It’s like having someone mirroring all your failures and anxieties back at you and telling you they’re okay – in fact they’re hilarious. Reading this book was a bright moment in a generally dark year for the world, and we can’t wait to bring that same comfort to Australian audiences.’
